Tarn McLean is an Australian based artist and designer holding a Doctor of Philosophy in Visual Art. McLean’s work spans from a highly disciplined practice embedded in early to mid 20th Century Geometric Abstract painting. She incorporates these Modernist, historical elements as conceptual departure points towards perspectival outcomes that occupy the design of space and architecture.

McLeans work is concerned with the private, ontological act of making, colour placement and mark making, and how these attributes are valued in an era of mass production and visual saturation. Her work alternates and moves beyond the confines of the picture frame, occupying an aesthetic space within the disciplines of painting, wall painting, social practice, popular culture, textile and accessory design, video and installation art, all with links to the tradition of the painting medium.
